Smithfield Library honors Coretta Scott King’s birthday by showing “Betty & Coretta”

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama—Smithfield Branch Library, #1 Eighth Ave. West, will celebrate the life of the late Coretta Scott King and honor her birthday on Thursday, April 27, 2017. The library is hosting a showing of “Betty & Coretta” for Learning Adventures, a senior citizens group that meets monthly at the library.

“Betty & Coretta” follows the lives of Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz, the wives of civil rights icons Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. The movie focuses on their relationship, plus the similarities and difficulties they faced becoming single mothers after both of their husbands' assassinations.

Learning Adventures meets every fourth Thursday at 10 a.m. at Smithfield Library. For more information on Learning Adventures and how to get involved in the group, contact Smithfield Library Branch Manager Heather McWilliams or Library Assistant III Reba Williams at 205-324-8428 or via email at hrmcwilliams@bham.lib.al.us or rwilliams@bham.lib.al.us.
