See information attached and below about a Real Men Talk informational session taking place during Father's Day weekend on Saturday, June 15, in which BPL will share details of a new male mentoring program that will debut as a pilot program in the Central Library in September 2019.

Youth groups, churches and individuals willing to mentor youth who attend after school activities at BPL are invited. Snacks will be provided. Fox 6 personality JehJeh Pruitt will give encouraging words and representatives of several Birmingham area youth groups will speak as well.

Central Library hosting Real Men Talk Informational Session on Saturday, June 15

 Birmingham, Ala.-The Birmingham Public Library is inviting men interested in mentoring young people to a Real Men Talk Informational Session being held from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 15, 2019, in the Central Library East Grand Reading Room in downtown Birmingham.

 "Real Men Talk" is an afterschool male mentoring program series kicking off with a pilot program at the Central Library in September 2019, then spreading to select BPL locations across the city. It will feature men of various professions meeting monthly with youth in afterschool activities at participating libraries.   The adult male mentors will talk to young patrons about their careers and share advice about real life issues such as how to handle conflict and keep your emotions in check, what to do if stopped by the police, and tips on boosting self-esteem.

During the June 15 informational session, BPL Public Relations Director Roy L. Williams will share the vision behind Real Men Talk and give details on how men can sign up to be a mentor. Representatives of various male mentoring organizations including The Man Project, 100 Black Men of Metro Birmingham, Determined To Be Mentoring & Leadership Program,  and the City of Birmingham Division of Youth Services will share information about their youth outreach efforts.

WBRC Fox 6 personality JehJeh Pruitt will give encouraging words for attendees. Snacks will be provided.
