Library Patrons

At our Monthly Board of Trustees meeting on yesterday March 14, 2020, Library Administration  was granted two areas of operational approval  to close for public service with consideration for the current COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic.


Effective Immediate today:  March 15, 2020

All Locations of the Birmingham Public Library are Closed to the Public for Use of Library, Events, Programs, Partnerships, and Community Engagement Outreach

The Birmingham Public Library plays host to an average of 1.5 Million patrons each year and our visits increase considerably  when school is out  and children of all ages spend more time at all of our 20 library locations.  While the BCS system is out, it is not in the best interest of public health and safety for Library locations to be open and contributing to unknown “ community spread.”

1. The Library Website is open 24 hours a day, 7 days each week, and 365 days each year.  Please visit us at cobpl.org.  Your library card can unlock a world of  resources and entertainment.  This is not limited to the Alabama Virtual Library, Homework Help Alabama,  Free Music via 13 million current songs from the Sony Music catalog(comparable to what you pay for with Apple Music and other paid services.  Kanaopy, Learning Express Library, ebooks, audio books, and so many more amazing services available online.

2. Library Mobile application:   You can take the library with you in your “clean hands“  or your pocket using our mobile application.   See: http://www.bplonline.org/services/mobile.aspx

Community Engagement Online:
Using our amazing staff, creativity, and technology,  BPL will continue to engage our communicate with every library location creating fun programs on social media, via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  We will create fun opportunities to learn, earn special prizes, and to make it thru this pandemic with the best of community resources and sharing online.

Meeting Rooms: Library Managers began contacting our patrons regarding meeting rooms on yesterday and all  meeting room bookings can be rescheduled or a refund will be issued to the patron or organization.

Please remember consider social space and to wash your hands at least for 20 seconds, avoid shaking hands, clean surfaces with anti-bacterial wipes, etc.  The city has established a  link for information on the coronavirus. It is www.birminghamal.gov/coronavirus.
