Birmingham Public Library Foundation Launches Fundraiser for Needed Materials
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – (November 22, 2013) – The Birmingham Public Library Foundation is seeking to raise $50,000 by Jan. 1, 2014 to purchase needed materials for the library’s collections.
Donations made to this campaign are tax deductible and will be used to buy current books and e-books, magazines, journals and newspapers, and databases such as Ancestry.com and Reference USA. Such materials can help people trace their family roots, start businesses and more. Library funding remains tight. But this fundraiser will help supplement the library’s materials budget. The materials will be shared with the system’s 19 locations.
The library fundraiser is tied into an international social media campaign known as “Giving Tuesday,” which is set for Dec. 3 and encourages people to give to charities during the holidays. Between now and Dec. 3, the Birmingham Public Library will tweet and post Facebook messages about its services and funding needs. People who make donations to the Birmingham Public library between now and Dec. 3, will be entered into a drawing for a dinner for two to El Barrio and a shopping spree at the Friends Bookstore at the downtown library.
