Holocaust Survivors Seen Through Art, Photography and Film
Come join us at noon on Wednesdays in the Richard Arrington Auditorium of the Central Library for March’s Brown Bag programs.
Wednesday, March 4--- Darkness into Life: Alabama Holocaust Survivors through Photography and Art
Mitzi J. Levin, Artist
Mitzi Levin co-produced this exhibit with photographer Becky Seitel. Ms. Levin will share her experiences in developing art for the exhibit, from interviewing survivors to the final creation.
Wednesday, March 11—“L’dor va L’dor—Generation to Generation”
Denise Blum Lewis tells of her father, Roger Blum’s unusual road to survival, from France to Birmingham at the age of 19, to joining the U.S. Army, and back to Birmingham after the war. His parents and sister were captured and taken to a concentration camp.
Wednesday, March 18 ---The Children of the Holocaust
This 55 minute film, locally produced by Jenny Katz and Dorian MacDougal introduces you to the experiences of nine Birmingham Holocaust survivors.
Wednesday, March 25— Darkness into Life: Alabama Holocaust Survivors through Photography and Art

The photographer discusses her contributions to this important exhibit. She will relate how the Holocaust, previously unknown to her, became a focus of her creative work. Her photographs depict current images of the survivors in photo journalistic style.
