The building was completed about 1941 and was one of the most modern school buildings in America. It was constructed by the Works Projects Administration, a federal agency of 1935 - 1943 charged with instituting and administering public works. Designed by architect E. B. Van Keuren, some of the latest construction techniques and materials were used in the building processes. The one-story building has walls of concrete reinforced by steel and cost approximately $250,000 to build.
