Engraving of James D. Moore who was head of one of the largest wholesale hardware businesses in Alabama. Before going into business, he established Roanoke Institute in Randolph County, Alabama and was the instructor there. His first business adventure was in Randolph County. He had a country general store with W. A. Handley. His Moore, Moore & Handly firm in Birmingham was composed of James D. and Benjamin F. Moore and W. A. Handley. In 1888 the company was incorporated as the Moore & Handley Hardware Company. He also helped rebuild the Metropolitan Hotel.
